6th Annual Mile High Chili Cup

The 1RC Racing staff went to the 6th Annual Chili Cup in Westminster, Colorado, the weekend of February 21st through the 23rd. The Colorado 1RC Racing Club and HobbyTownUSA-Westminster hosted 312 entries, with racers from nine different states. Racers from California to South Carolina represented a coast-to-coast event for 1RC racing fans.
The temporary 1RC track at HobbyTown-Westminster is set up on low-pile tile-type carpet, which is what the entire retail location uses for flooring. The track is set up and torn down weekly so the store can use the area for different types of business activities. This shows that anyone can host races if they have a little bit of space.
Qualifying and Racing
Open practice started on Friday morning when the store opened at 10 AM. Once the track was grooved in, we went into seeding rounds. The seeding had two drivers running on the track simultaneously for four laps to post their fastest lap time and seed them into their qualifier on Saturday.
Qualifying started at 9 AM on Saturday with two rounds based on your single-lap seeding run from Friday. The qualifiers were one-minute heads-up qualifiers for each class. After the first round of qualifying, the race organizers reshuffled based on your first-round qualifying time for the second round and then the same for the third round on Sunday.
Sunday led us into the final round of qualifying and then into the mains. The lower mains were 40 laps long, with the top two finishing drivers bumping into the next main, which was back-to-back. Racers who bumped into the next main changed their batteries and lined up for their next main. All of the A-Mains were 100-lap feature events for all the classes, making for some exciting racing.
Tech
What would racing be without a tech team? The Colorado 1RC Racing Tech team did a fantastic job ensuring cars were stock vehicles; battery voltages were under 8.4v, use of teched motors, and racers were using one of your two sets of teched tires and not using tire additives.
The number of 1RC Racing cars at this race like this amazed us. We have proven that we can keep racing simple, affordable, and fun. We genuinely thank our customers who ran this weekend and every weekend. Thank you to everyone who raced, organized, and hosted the 6th Annual Mile High Chili Cup. We look forward to the 2026 Chili Cup.
